Taipei Hikers: My hiking club (most hikes are free-of-charge to join!)

523 Mountineering Association: Popular, club run by students,  offering day hikes and multi-day trips; foreigners welcomed.

Books from Taiwan: (by far the best sourse for books about Taiwan, including tomes on the island’s natural history and culture, as well as maps and guides.

English-speaking Companies Organising Hikes and Treks in Taiwan:

Barking Deer Adventures: Small, Irish-run company specializing in high mountain trips and nature holidays. The boss, Richard Foster, has a wealth of experience in climbing the 3,000 meter-plus peaks and in birding.

Formosan Adventures: Another friendly and experienced small outfit offering a wide range of tours but specialising  in arranging mountain treks and river tracing.

Taiwan Adventures: Brand new company run by three Brits and an American. (Website in prepration). The group also developed a mobile app guide; an online version   can be found here.
